YEREVAN, April 10. /ARKA/. Armen Sarkissian, Armenian president, told TASS that he intended to fly to Moscow soon.
Armen Sarkissian, was sworn in as president yesterday. Armen Sarkissyan was sworn in as president yesterday. He is the first Armenian president who has been elected by the parliament. On the same day, Serzh Sargsyan, his predecessor, left office and the Cabinet ministers resigned.
Karen Karapetyan, acting prime minister, has already nominated the candidacy of the third president, Serzh Sargsyan, for the prime-ministerial position.
The process of nomination of candidates will be completed on April 16, and on the next day the premier will be elected by the parliament.
Sarkissian said that as a rule, Armenian presidents pay their first visits exactly to Moscow, though mentioned no particular dates.
He pointed out that the relations between the two nations have deep centuries-long roots.
”Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed the special trust-based natural of bilateral relations and Moscow’s willingness to continue strengthening allied interaction with Yerevan in all directions,” he said. “In 2017, our countries have celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the 20th anniversary of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Agreement…”
Thanks to joint efforts of Armenian and Russian authorities, he said, Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, friendship and cooperation between the two countries have been increasingly developing and the process has gained momentum and pace and has been filled with new content and aspects.
Remarkable is that for 25 years of diplomatic relations the first official visits of heads of states have been paid exactly in the last decade.
Although considerable achievement is seen in their relations, the countries still have plenty to do.
“I would also like to point out Armenia-Russia relations in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the United Nations and other international organizations, which significantly enriches all the aspects of the Armenian-Russian cooperation,” Sarkissian said in his interview.
He said special attention should be paid to expansion of human contacts, especially young people’s communication, and the opportunity given to Russian citizens more than one year ago to travel to Armenia with Russian national passports have significantly simplified this communication.
Sarkissian also said that the two nations also remember their joint victory in the Great Patriotic War. Armenian people have contributed a great deal to this victory – 600,000 Armenians have fought and 300,000 have fallen in this war.
He also pointed out two prominent persons whose names are connected with the victory – Marshal Ivan Baghramyan, the Soviet Union Hero, and Gevork Vartanyan, a sleeper intelligence officer who was the Soviet Union Hero as well.
Sarkissian also said that the two national have plenty in common in art, culture, science.
He said cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries were developing intensively in recent years. --0---
