YEREVAN, June 5. /ARKA/. Having no official diplomatic relations with Turkey, Armenia is conducting a very active dialogue with it, more effective than many countries that have such relations, said Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

Mirzoyan said that this dialogue has been developing in a positive direction for a long time. "Of course, there are interim results, but it is high time to record final, tangible results on the ground," Mirzoyan emphasized, speaking in parliament on Thursday during the discussion of the report on the implementation of the Armenian state budget for 2024.

On the Armenian-Turkish dialogue

There have been no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey since 1991, and the state border has been closed since 1993 on the initiative of Ankara. Among the problematic issues are Ankara's dissatisfaction with the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide promoted by Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

In December 2021, Armenia and Turkey appointed their emissaries for the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations - Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan and an experienced diplomat, former Turkish Ambassador to the United States Serdar Kilic.

On March 12, 2022, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Turkey discussed the further normalization process, confirmed their readiness to advance this process without preconditions, eventually establishing diplomatic relations and opening the borders between the two countries.

Direct air cargo flights between Armenia and Turkey became possible from January 1, 2023.

On September 24, 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan met at the Turkish House in New York and stressed their readiness to continue the normalization process without preconditions and give new impetus to relations.

On April 12, 2025, Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Hakan Fidan discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda of Armenian-Turkish relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
