YEREVAN, September 22. /ARКА/. Throughout the years of partnership, Armenia and NATO have executed a variety of ongoing programs, said today Andranik Kocharyan, who leads the Armenian National Assembly delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and serves as the chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security.

"These initiatives have significantly enhanced Armenia's security framework, as discussions regarding military transparency indicate that without their execution, we would have struggled to manage independently—our own concepts would not have sufficed for decision-making. However, by adopting this knowledge and tailoring it to our context, we have successfully implemented numerous military reforms," Kocharyan remarked in response to an inquiry about NATO's willingness to assist in the reforms of the Armenian Armed Forces.

He recognized that these reforms have not yet achieved a satisfactory level.

"Nonetheless, I can affirm that military transparency is now more aligned with the security framework than it has ever been, not only in my capacity as the head of the Armenian National Assembly delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly but also as someone who has presided over the parliamentary committee on defense and security for seven years," he stated.

Armenia and NATO member states have established an Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPA), which was formalized in December 2005. Armenia's involvement in this plan includes regular consultations with NATO regarding regional security, the formulation of a regional security strategy, the development of Armenia's military doctrine, enhancements in defense and budget planning, among other matters.

In March 2024, then-Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declared that Armenia and NATO were nearing an agreement on a new partnership initiative.-0-
