YEREVAN, October 3. /ARKA/. Armenia's mining sector faces significant opportunities and challenges, including a stone shortage, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at the Mining Armenia Forum.

"When we talk about Armenia's mining sector, we primarily mean the exploitation of metal mines, as over 95% of the sector is related to metal mine exploitation. However, even in this reality, there are challenges. In this context, the government faces very serious problems, particularly in the exploitation of non-metal mines," he noted.

According to the prime minister, Armenia, often referred to as the "country of stones," is experiencing a stone shortage: stone is imported to implement subsidy programs in the regions. "Much remains to be done in terms of stone processing and extraction, because this is the potential of our economy and the hallmark of our country," Pashinyan said, emphasizing transparency and professionalism in the sector.

According to the Armenian State Statistics Service, the mining industry and open-pit mines account for 17.6% of the country's total industrial output. The volume of production in this sector for the first seven months of this year amounted to approximately 265 billion drams, a 1% decline compared to the same period in 2024. ($1 = 383.34 drams)
