Pashinyan: Armenia is prepared to facilitate cargo transit through Turkey to Azerbaijan and vice versa
YEREVAN, October 22. /ARКА/. The constructive dialogue with Turkey instills optimism that the border may soon be reopened, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during his address at the 5th Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi, Georgia.
"We are equipped not only politically but also technically to facilitate the transit of trucks through Turkey to Azerbaijan and vice versa at this moment. In Armenia, the roads and border infrastructure are ready for this along the Margara, Yeghegnadzor, Sisian, and Goris routes," Pashinyan remarked.
He further noted that Armenia is also politically prepared to enable cargo transit from Nakhichevan to Azerbaijan and vice versa through Armenia, although the necessary infrastructure is currently insufficient.
"From a political standpoint, we are ready to establish rail connections between Turkey and Nakhichevan, as well as between Turkey and Azerbaijan, but the railway requires repairs and restoration. I am optimistic that these technical challenges will be addressed within two to three years," Pashinyan stated.
He added that pipelines and power lines will soon be constructed across Armenia from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan, in addition to connections between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. Rail and road links will also be developed.
"All of these discussions are taking place within the framework of the TRIPP project, in collaboration with our Azerbaijani and Turkish partners. The most crucial condition for the realization of all these plans is peace, which was established between Armenia and Azerbaijan following the Washington summit. We are currently striving to institutionalize peace with Azerbaijan and to sign and ratify a peace treaty with Baku. All communications will be opened, leading to historic transformations in our region," Pashinyan concluded.-0-
