YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. Due to the situation in Iran, some cargo carriers are reluctant to use its territory as a transit country, the Armenian State Revenue Committee stated, commenting to the Armenpress news agency on reports of a decline in cargo traffic between Armenia and Iran amid tensions in the Middle East.

"Instead, they prefer to transport cargo from China and other Middle Eastern countries through Georgia. Therefore, the decline in cargo traffic via Iran seems natural, and in recent days a certain, albeit slight, decrease has indeed been observed," the State Revenue Committee reported.

The agency also noted that approximately 180-200 Armenian trucks have accumulated at the Agarak checkpoint on the border with Iran, waiting to cross. "According to our information, communication failures are occurring periodically on the Iranian side, which can lead to queues from time to time. When communication is disrupted, paperwork is used, which takes longer," the department noted.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. The stated goal of the operation is the destruction of Iran's missile industry, naval forces, and nuclear potential. Strikes were carried out on more than 2,000 targets. The strikes killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of high-ranking officials.
