Armenia will reach a decision when the choice becomes final and unavoidable: Pashinyan regarding the nation's membership in the EU and the EAEU

YEREVAN, August 28. /ARКА/. Armenia will arrive at an appropriate decision when the choice is final and unavoidable, stated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"We recognize that simultaneous membership in both the EU and the EAEU is unfeasible, and when the choice is final and unavoidable, we will arrive at an appropriate decision," he remarked during a press briefing on Thursday.

The prime minister emphasized that any scenario remains possible, which is also influenced by the will of the populace, the current circumstances, the negotiation process, and the outcomes and prospects of the situation analysis, as well as available opportunities and alternatives.

On February 12, 2025, the National Assembly of Armenia approved the bill regarding the initiation of the country's accession process to the EU in its first reading, and on March 3, the NA Committee on European Integration postponed the discussion of this bill in the second reading for technical reasons.

Previously, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan indicated that Armenia does not intend to sever economic connections and does not aim to diminish trade turnover with the EAEU and Russia

He stated that Armenia is pursuing economic diversification and seeks to enhance trade turnover with the European Union as well. The head of government also pointed out that commencing the EU accession process mitigates certain foreign policy risks.

He noted that Armenia can only become a member of the EU if the populace endorses this initiative through a referendum. According to the prime minister, the primary challenge confronting Armenia in the EU accession process is adherence to EU standards.-0-
