Armenia will not transfer customs functions under the TRIPP project to an international operator, stated Eduard Hakobyan, head of the RA State Revenue Committee.
YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. Armenia will not transfer customs functions under the TRIPP project to an international operator, stated Eduard Hakobyan, head of the RA State Revenue Committee.
"The Republic of Armenia fully retains all customs functions and state sovereignty," Hakobyan said at a briefing, commenting on the proposed powers of the international operator.
According to him, the operator will only perform simple operations that will not affect the efficiency of customs administration.
At the same time, risk analysis, inspection, and final decision-making will remain solely the responsibility of customs officials.
Hakobyan noted that the involvement of an international operator is related, in particular, to the upcoming opening of borders, which have remained closed for many years, and the need to ensure trust between the parties.
"If situations arise in which a genuine risk exists and an inspection is required, the decision will be made by a customs officer. The front office cannot make such decisions," he explained.
The head of the State Revenue Committee added that the specific functions of the front office are still being discussed and will be defined in the relevant agreement.
