Armenia and EU initial visa facilitation and readmission agreements

Head of Armenia’s delegation to the European Union, Avet Adonts, and head of the Directorate of Internal Affairs of the European Commission, Stefano Manservizi, initialed in Brussels on Thursday a visa facilitation and a readmission agreements between the EU and Armenia, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry said today.

YEREVAN, October 18. / ARKA /. Head of Armenia’s delegation to the European Union, Avet Adonts, and head of the Directorate of Internal Affairs of the European Commission, Stefano Manservizi, initialed in Brussels on Thursday a visa facilitation and a readmission agreements between the EU and Armenia, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry said today.

The ministry said the agreements will be signed in December 2012 and enter the stage of ratification in the first half of 2013.
The visa facilitation agreement calls for introduction of a simplified procedure for certain categories of Armenian citizens for obtaining visas for entering the Schengen zone. This will in the first place apply to members of official delegations, scholars, students, entrepreneurs, business organizations, and scientists.

The cost of obtaining visas is expected to be lowered to 35 euros, and for some categories of citizens, in particular children and pensioners, the procedure will be free. The readmission agreement assumes control over migration flows. The proposal to start negotiations was made by the European Commission in September 2011. The agreements on visa facilitation and readmission will come into force simultaneously. -0-
