Armenia appoints new Ambassador to Russia

YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. Gurgen Arsenyan, formerly a National Assembly member from the ruling Civil Contract faction, was appointed as Armenia’s new Ambassador to Russia by a decree signed by the President of Armenia on Thursday.

In a related decree, Vagharshak Harutyunyan was relieved of his duties as Armenia's Ambassador to Russia.

Arsenyan resigned from his parliamentary mandate last week.

Media reports earlier suggested that the Armenian leadership intended to replace Ambassador Vagharshak Harutyunyan with Gurgen Arsenyan. However, there were rumors that the Russian side had reservations about Arsenyan's appointment due to his alleged "anti-Russian" statements, leading to speculations that Moscow might refuse to approve him as the Ambassador. Arsenyan has since denied these claims.
