Armenia assumes chairmanship of International Organization of Francophonie
YEREVAN, October 11 /ARKA/. Armenia has taken over today the two-year rotating chairmanship of the International Organization of Francophonie (IOF) from Madagascar. The ceremony was organized as part of the 17th Francophonie Summit hosted by Armenian capital Yerevan. The handover of the chairmanship was announced by Madagascar President Rivo Rakotovao.

“This is a very exciting moment. We are fully aware of the responsibility that Armenia assumes for the next two years as chairperson of the IOF. I also want to express my gratitude to Madagascar for the assistance and the achievements that were achieved during its chaimanship,” said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

He also said that in the context of the numerous challenges, which  the modern society faces, consolidation around human values, ensuring respect for the diversity, as well as solidarity and exchange between Francophone countries is very important.

Created in 1970, the Francophonie brings together 58 states and governments, many of them in Africa. Its primary mission is to promote the French language as an international language, as well as cultural and linguistic diversity in the world.

Armenia joined the organization in 2004. France is home to an estimated 500,000 ethnic Armenians, and sizable Armenian communities also live in Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and other Francophone countries.-0
