Armenia can not now join customs union accession agreement- Lukashenko

Belorussian president Alexander Lukashenko said today Armenia cannot join the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, but only after all required accession procedures are completed.

YEREVAN, October 21. / ARKA /. Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko said today Armenia cannot join the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, but only after all required accession procedures are completed. Lukashenko’s said this during a meeting with heads of CIS mass media, Novosti Armenia reported citing RIA Novosti.

He said Armenia can join the Customs Union only when it completes all procedures and adopts the regulatory instruments and agreements already in force.

Lukashenko did not rule out that Armenia may sign a document of intent to join the Customs Union
at the forthcoming summit  of the Eurasian Economic Cooperation (EurAsEC) in Minsk. 

“Armenia should go its way of accession. Just like with the WTO. You can join it after a certain period of time,” he said.

"I believe that it is not even the first step, but half a step, because there is no certainty in this matter yet," according to Lukashenko.

He added that ‘the purpose is to have Armenia with us." -0-
