Armenia in final stage to sign association agreement with EU

Armenia is in the final stage of a process for signing Association Agreement with the EU, foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today.
YEREVAN, January 16. /ARKA/. Armenia is in the final stage of a process for signing Association Agreement with the EU, foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today.
He said the two sides have discussed 20 chapters of the Association Agreement, adding that Azerbaijan has not gone even half of the way in the association negotiations.
The minister expressed hope that next year the sides will reach an agreement on visa facilitation which will open a new page in Armenia’s relations with Europe.
"I also hope that next year we shall start negotiations on deep and comprehensive free trade area," - said Nalbandian.
Negotiations on the Association Agreement Armenia-EU started on June 19, 2010 in Yerevan. The upcoming agreement will substitute the agreement on partnership and cooperation and is aimed at strengthening the relations between Armenia and European Union in different spheres, particularly in the sphere of foreign policy, democracy, economic integration, movement of people and energy. -0-
