Armenia not under threat of default
YEREVAN, October 18. /ARKA/. Vahram Baghdasaryan, head of the faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia in the National Assembly, is convinced that default doesn’t threaten Armenia.

He told journalists on Monday that there are certain default signs, which are not seen in the country.

“There is certain need to improve economic things, but I see no threat of default, and the country’s foreign debt has not exceeded the permitted amount,” he said.
Baghdasaryan said that a new program of the new government will be unveiled soon and, in his opinion,
this program will undermine such statements.

His fellow partisan, Vardan Ayvazyan, who is a member of the parliament as well, on his side, said that the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s statement about imminent default is rather political than economic, since there are nothing like that in the country.

The MP of the ruling party fears that “such groundless statements may trigger outflow of investments from the country”.

According to the National Statistical Service, Armenia’s foreign debt reached $4 541.8 million by late August 2016 after growing 1% or by $48.8 million over one month.

The country’s foreign debt has grown 4.4% or by $232 million since the beginning of this year. --0---
