Armenia parliament to meet for emergency session to abolish martial law
YEREVAN, November 20. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament will convene on November 26 for an emergency session to abolish the martial law, declared after Azerbaijan attacked Nagorno-Karabakh in late September. The motion to abolish the martial law was submitted by the opposition Bright Armenia party.

In recent days, protests have been held in Yerevan, organized by 17 opposition parties, demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.

Politicians and ordinary citizens are outraged by the  statement he signed with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Under the statement, Nagorno-Karabakh armed forces withdraw from seven regions surrounding Karabakh the they had controlled since 1994.

According to the current legislation, during the period of martial law, the parliament cannot consider the resignation of  prime minister. Because of this, the parliamentary opposition has repeatedly tried to convene an extraordinary meeting of parliament to abolish the  martial law, but the ruling My Step bloc refused to participate in the meetings, thereby preventing its organization.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the sides stopped at their positions; the town of Shushi, Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions pass over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of the 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent is deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged ($1 - 497.38 drams). -0-
