YEREVAN, June 14. /ARKA/. Welcoming his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Yerevan, who has arrived today in Armenia on a two-day official visit, president Serzh Sargsyan said the visit is symbolic, as this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Sargsyan was quoted by his press office as saying that such visits provide a good opportunity for summing up the results of a path that both countries have gone through over 25 years, and on the other hand to exchange views on the prospects for the development of bilateral relations and on topical regional and international issues.
Sargsyan was said to have underscored the importance of the documents that were signed today by both sides. According to the president, they will complement the agenda of bilateral relations, since the level of cooperation today does not correspond to the level of friendship between the Armenian and Tajik peoples, nor to the level of interstate relations between the two countries.
In turn, Rahmon expressed gratitude to Sargsyan for the invitation to the beautiful and ancient country of Armenia. As promising areas for cooperation, Rahmon singled out trade, production of agricultural products, as well as food, light industry, mining, energy, communications, education and science, and healthcare.
Rahmon also praised the Armenian businessmen, noting that Armenia has achieved great success in processing of agricultural products and that in Tajikistan they want to acquire the same skills, given the modern technology and innovations of the sector.
Earlier in the day Rahmon visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan, where he laid flowers to the monument and honored the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide. -0-
