Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission finalizes election result, ruling RPA got 42 seats out of 65

Armenia’s central electoral commission summarized the final results of the May 5 election to Yerevan’s Council of Elders Sunday.
YEREVAN, May 13. /ARKA/. Armenia’s central electoral commission summarized the final results of the May 5 election to Yerevan’s Council of Elders Sunday.
According to the document signed by the commission, 437,079 out of 816,494 eligible voters cast ballots in the election. The Republican Party of Armenia polled almost 56% (235,515 votes), Prosperous Armenia of tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan got over 23% (97,166 votes) and “Hello, Yerevan” party bloc obtained 35,721 votes or about 8.5%. These parties and the bloc managed to clear the election hurdle and enter the city’s municipal assembly.
The opposition Armenian National Congress party polled 4.3% (18,493) of the vote, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) – almost 3.8% (15,997), Orinats Yerkir - 3.7% (15,732) and the Mission party – 0.6% (2,690).
The Republican Party got 42 seats in the city council. Prosperous Armenia and “Hello, Yerevan” received 17 and 6 seats respectively.
The central electoral commission document says no violation that may have impact overthe final result has been recorded.
The city council consists of 65 people and party list system is used for the elections. If a party or a bloc gains more than 50% of the vote, the first number of the party list becomes mayor of Yerevan automatically. Otherwise, the mayor is to be elected by the city council (Council of Elders). The right to nominate candidates for mayor belongs to the factions within the Council of Elders. The electoral threshold is 6% for parties and 8% for blocs.–0—
