YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. On Thursday, Armenia’s Constitutional Court declined the applications filed by Raffi Hovannisian, leader of Heritage party and the key rival to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in the recent presidential election, and Andrias Ghukasyan, another presidential candidate, against the Central Election Commission.
Raffi Hovannisian, who scored 36.74% of votes in the presidential election, and Andrias Ghukasyan, a political analyst and the head of Radio Hay (0.57%), demanded the results of the poll to be void because of numerous election irregularities, but the Constitutional Court refused to do so.
Tigran Mukuchyan, head of the Central Election Commission, denied allegations saying that there is nothing in these appolications that could cast doubt on the results of the vote.
The presidential election final results released by the Central Election Commission showed that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was reelected by 58.64% of votes.
The second vote-getter Raffi Hovannisian, unhappy about the results of the poll, is staging rallies in Armenia’s provinces. Hovannisian announced the start of the Revolution of Greetings. Now he is on a hunger strike at Liberty Square in downtown Yerevan. -0-
