Armenia's military spending is up by 26 percent in 2019

Armenia's defense budget in 2019 has surged by about 26%, amounting to 312 billion drams, from 247.8 billion drams last year, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

YEREVAN, September 16. /ARKA/. Armenia's defense budget in 2019 has surged by about 26%, amounting to 312 billion drams, from 247.8 billion drams last year, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Speaking at a news conference in the town of Vanadzor today, Pashinyan said the government allocated additional funds in the amount of 2.1 billion drams to improve the conditions of servicemen on combat duty.

Pashinyan said also that in June-August 2019, the number of combat positions receiving electricity from solar panels increased by about 5%. The head of government stressed also that the number of military equipment and weapons, including destruction systems, increased by 5-10%.

" The number of modern video surveillance systems has increased by about 10% on the front line. By the end of the year, 30-35% of combat positions will be provided with drinking water," he added. Pashinyan said also that the funding of the military industry will increased by 114% in 2020 budget.

He said  that six private companies were chosen to provide servicemen with high-quality food. As of September 2019, there were 16 military units which shifted to the new system. The Prime Minister said that in the third quarter of 2020 this system will embrace all large military units of the country.

He also recalled that from June 1, 2019, monthly payments to the career military personnel increased from 4.6% to 32.6%. He said the government also rose the amount of cash payments to conscript soldiers by 1-2 thousand drams from July 1, 2019. ($ 1 - 476.18 dram). -0-
