Armenia's National Security Service thwarts usurpation of power attempt (VIDEO)
YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) has announced today the arrest of 8 members of an NGO called 'Military-Patriotic Crusaders' on charges of conspiring to usurp power.
The NSS said the members of the group had planned to seize power with the use of weapons and ammunition in their possession through the use of violence. To that end they had acquired, telecommunication equipment, jammers for telephone and other communications, tools and means to facilitate the crime.
The NSS said other conditions were also created for the preparation for usurpation of power by prior conspiracy as a group, but for reasons beyond their control they were unable to implement them.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and charges were brought against the arrested persons.
Searches were conducted in their homes and in the office of the NGO, as a result of which weapons, including firearms, ammunition, pneumatic guns, bulletproof vests, telecommunication equipment, computers, notebooks with various records, documents, etc. were found.
The investigation continues, measures are being taken to clarify all the circumstances, to identify all the participants of the criminal group, the NSS said.-0-
