Armenia’s Zharangutiun (Heritage) opposition party has nominated Stepa Safaryan, the secretary general of the party responsible for its international relations, to run for a parliament seat in by-election in a single-mandate constituency in a Yerevan district of Avan.

YEREVAN, October 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Zharangutiun (Heritage) opposition party has nominated Stepa Safaryan, the secretary general of the party responsible for its international relations, to run for a parliament seat in by-election in a single-mandate constituency in a Yerevan district of Avan.
The seat has become vacant after Armenian Football Federation President Ruben Hayrapetyan quit the National Assembly on July 3 because of a scandal over Vahe Avetyan, a military doctor, who died on July 29 after he was severely bitten by Hayrapetyan’s bodyguards in the restaurant owned by his family, according to some media reports.
Safaryan raced for a seat in the National Assembly also in this year’s parliamentary elections in the same constituency.
The by-election will take place on December 2.
Zharangutiun (Heritage), a national liberal party, was founded in 2002 by Raffi Hovhannisian, a former foreign minister. -0-
