Armenian civic group seeks to initiate referendum on EU accession
YEREVAN, September 5. /ARКА/. A civic initiative that intends to organize the collection of signatures for a referendum on Armenia's accession to the EU, submitted today a string of required documents to the Central Election Commission *CEC).
According to the CEC, a group of 51 citizens submitted a decision to form an initiative group that will propose a draft law "On the Start of the Process of Armenia's Membership in the European Union."
Artak Zeynalyan (co-founder, deputy chairman of the 'Hanrapetutyun' party) has been appointed as the authorized representative of the group.
In accordance with the Constitutional Law "On Referendum," the CEC must review the application for registration of the initiative group and its authorized representative within 10 days or reject it.
