Armenia's Ministry of Defense issued a statement today in connection with the upcoming large-scale operational-tactical military exercises in Azerbaijan scheduled for May 18 - 22.

YEREVAN, May 14. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Defense issued a statement today in connection with the upcoming large-scale operational-tactical military exercises in Azerbaijan scheduled for May 18 - 22.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said that these exercises are designed as offensive to simulate scenarios of delivering massive missile-artillery and air strikes to the enemy by precision weapons.
The Armenian Defense Ministry warned that any attempt by the Azerbaijani side to bring its military equipment and manpower closer to the state border of Armenia or to the line of contact with Artsakh will be considered as a provocation and will have corresponding consequences.
The Armenian Defense Ministry's statement draws the attention of the OSCE, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and the international community to the fact that large-scale military exercises planned in Azerbaijan are traditionally held without prior notice, which is further evidence of ignoring and flagrant violation of the Vienna Document of 2011, stipulating activities to strengthen the atmosphere of trust and security.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense condemns the conduct of military exercises by Azerbaijan, leading to an aggravation of the atmosphere of security in the region, in the face of the global struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic and in contrast to the appeal of UN Secretary General Antonio Guteres to establish a ceasefire around the world.
"We urge the Azerbaijani side to show restraint and to respect the obligations to the international community," the statement said. --0--
