YEREVAN, January 18. /ARKA/. Armenia welcomed today the lifting of sanctions against Iran, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said in a statement.
"We welcome the beginning of implementation of the agreements over the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against Iran. Armenia is interested in deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation with friendly Iran", the statement says.
According to RIA Novosti, IAEA member countries received on Saturday the final report of the agency's experts on the Iranian nuclear program prior to the official start of its implementation, after which the EU and US confirmed the lifting of economic and financial sanctions from Iran.
According to Stepan Safaryan, the head of the Armenian Institute for International and Security Issues, Armenia may benefit from the lifting of Western sanctions against Iran to diversify its economy.
Safaryan stressed that the main question is whether the Armenian authorities will be able to use the new opportunities to increase the economic security of Armenia, which is suffering now from the economic recession in Russia and lower oil prices. -0-
