Armenian authorities explain appointment of temporary manager of ENA amid arbitration dispute with Karapetyan's family

YEREVAN, July 23. /ARКА/. The Armenian government stated today that the appointment of a temporary manager of the Electric Netowrks of Armenia (ENA) does not contradict the decision of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, adding that it is aimed at preventing crises and identifying violations at the national power distribution company, which the government wants to nationalize.

Earlier, the Defense Council of Samvel Karapetyan issued a statement saying that Karapetyan and his family won the urgent arbitration proceedings against the Armenian government in the case of nationalization of ENA.

"In response to publications in the press regarding the decision of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce dated July 22, 2025, we inform you that the subject of consideration in the urgent proceedings differs from the purposes of appointing a temporary manager and the range of actions that he must carry out," the press service of the government said in a statement.

In particular, the appointment of a temporary manager pursues, among other things, the following objectives - preventing the risks of deliberate creation of an energy crisis, ensuring public order and eliminating possible threats to state security, preventing the concealment of abuses that took place in the ENA, and preventing further violations.

“While respecting the interim measures applied by decisions of foreign arbitrations, at the same time, everyone is obliged to be guided by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and international treaties that establish the procedure for the recognition and enforcement of arbitration decisions,” the statement says. -0-
