Armenian Deputy PM: No agreement on date for new border delimitation meeting with Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, December 9. /ARKA/. Armenian Deputy PM Mher Grigoryan stated that there is currently no agreement on a specific date for a new meeting regarding the delimitation of the border with Azerbaijan.

"The date of the meeting is determined based on bilateral agreements. At the moment, there is no agreement on the date of the meeting," he said in response to questions from FactorTV.

When asked which section will be the focus of the next stage of delimitation, the Deputy Prime Minister replied that this issue is currently under discussion.

"Discussions took place during the last meeting. Some options were discussed, but I cannot provide any further details, as there is an agreement to limit public statements to the information that has been officially released," Grigoryan said.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister denied the assumption that the process is at an impasse. Regarding the issue of unblocking communications, he noted that this is a separate topic, "which will also be discussed."

"But at the moment, there is also no specific agreement on the date for discussing this issue," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. Grigoryan also stated that there is currently no agreement on the format or location of the next round of negotiations.

Earlier, at the end of October, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan described the delimitation and demarcation process in the Tavush region, particularly near the village of Kirants (which borders Azerbaijan), as successful.

About the Regulations

On August 30 of this year, Yerevan and Baku signed a regulation (set of rules) regarding the joint work of the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border. After completing internal procedures, on October 24, the President of Armenia signed a law ratifying the regulations. On the same day, the President of Azerbaijan signed a similar law.

The regulations address procedural matters between the two countries following the signing of the state border agreement. These include organizing delimitation work, adopting relevant documents, preparing a protocol-description of the state border crossing, creating a delimitation map of the appropriate scale, and organizing the work of expert groups. The regulations and the documents adopted based on them will strengthen the legal framework for ensuring the smooth progress of the delimitation process.
