Armenian deputy PM talks visa liberalization with EU migration representative

YEREVAN, December 12. /ARKA/. Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan met with Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, and Vasilis Maragos, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.

Grigoryan emphasized the importance of the initiatives carried out within the framework of the EU visa liberalization dialogue. He highlighted the potential positive changes resulting from visa liberalization, as well as the mobility of people and certain sectors of the economy.

The Armenian Deputy Prime Minister specifically emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and presented the EU partners with the reforms that have been carried out and those planned in key areas.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to social protection, healthcare, education, and border management.

Earlier, Arsen Ghazaryan, the head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of Armenia (now Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia), announced the forthcoming start of consultations between Armenia and the European Commission on visa liberalization. He stated that the Armenian side would provide the necessary informational base, which will serve as the foundation for EC specialists to develop a program for Armenia. 

Armenia-EU Cooperation

The Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the ratification process of which took about 3 years, entered into force on March 1, 2021.
In September 2024, the EU-Armenia Visa Liberalization Dialogue was officially launched, and work is underway on a new comprehensive document called the “New Partnership Agenda.”
