Armenian FM announces focus on mutually beneficial partnership with Russia

YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. Armenia is focused on long-term and mutually beneficial partnership with the Russian Federation in all areas. This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the expanded talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"We have already discussed a number of issues in a one-on-one format. I am confident that in an expanded format we will have the same constructive exchange of views, a meaningful discussion of issues of bilateral cooperation between our countries, as well as topics related to the regional and international agendas," Mirzoyan said.

He noted that interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries continues. On March 20, regular political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Russia in a very constructive manner.

"Our teams have completed the approval of a new two-year plan of consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Russia, which I hope we will sign today. There is a positive dynamic in the development of humanitarian cooperation. I am confident that the Days of Armenian Culture in Russia, scheduled for the end of this year, will contribute to the further intensification of Armenian-Russian cultural ties," Mirzoyan said.

Attaching importance to bilateral visits, he said that the upcoming visit of the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko in early June will take place against the backdrop of the anniversary interregional forum, which will become another important element in the development of our bilateral relations.

"Yerevan is interested in deepening cooperation within the framework of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the interparliamentary commission and other joint platforms. Relations between Armenia and Russia also cover interaction on the platforms of multilateral and international associations," Mirzoyan said.

In this context, he noted trade and economic cooperation within the EAEU, as well as the Free Trade Agreement between the Union and Iran, which entered into force on May 15, which will certainly contribute to the further implementation of the foreign trade potential of the Union countries.

"As for the promotion of the positive agenda of the Republic of Armenia towards establishing long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus, as well as increasing the economic attractiveness of the region, I will readily present the steps taken by Armenia to normalize relations with neighboring countries - Azerbaijan and Turkey. We are also ready to share our concept of the region's communication capabilities through the opening of all regional economic and transport infrastructures, the implementation of which is envisaged within the framework of the Crossroads of Peace project," Mirzoyan said.

Summing up, he once again confirmed Armenia's readiness to continue an effective political dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation that meets the interests of the peoples and states of the Republic of Armenia and Russia.
