From today, only Armenian Border Troops will carry out border control at the Agarak checkpoint of the Armenian-Iranian state border, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Monday.

YEREVAN, 30 December. /ARKA/. From today, only Armenian Border Troops will carry out border control at the Agarak checkpoint of the Armenian-Iranian state border, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Monday.

‘Until now, since Armenia's independence, border control at the Agarak checkpoint has been carried out by servicemen of the Border Troops of the Russian Federation. I want to thank them for their service,’ Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page.

The Prime Minister wished success and good service to the Armenian border guards, who have taken control of the border from today. Earlier, National Security Service Director Armen Abazyan said that from 1 January 2025, Armenian border troops will perform border service at the Agarak border checkpoint on the border with Iran.

On 8 October 2024, Armenian Prime Minister's Press Secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan said that during a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, an agreement was reached that from 1 January 2025, Armenian National Security Service border troops will participate in the guarding of state borders with Iran and Turkey. It was specified that only Armenian border guards will serve at the checkpoint on the border with Iran. -0-
