Armenia’s acting Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan resigned on May 8.
YEREVAN, May 9. /ARKA/. Armenia’s acting Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan resigned on May 8. In a statement he said his resignation was prompted by the latest political developments. He said defense minister is a civil official, and his work is effective only in a team of like-minded people.
‘This issue is not related either to professionalism or willingness to serve the people: one should serve the society regardless of position and job. I will continue my service in a different status,’ he said.
"I'm proud that I'm passing to my successor a stronger, more efficient and effective army. I'm passing an army with a significantly increased budget, expanded infrastructure, improved statistics," he said.
He also expressed regret at the fact that many programs, in particular, those regarding the social protection of servicemen are still at the stage of introduction.
Sargsyan also expressed readiness to help his successor and all future ministers to enhance the country's security. -0-
