YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan and Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin exchanged views on Armenian-Russian interstate and allied cooperation at a meeting today in Yerevan.

Volodin is leading a Russian delegation that has arrived in Armenia to attend a meeting of the CSTO PA Council. CSTO, which stands for the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization, comprises also Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

According to the Armenian Parliament press office, the sides placed particular emphasis on interaction in the military-political and military-technical areas, consistent improvement of the broad legal framework, successful partnership in trade, economic, interregional and humanitarian spheres.

After a face-to-face meeting, Simonyan and Volodin joined an enlarged discussion. This year Armenia and Russia mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

The bilateral parliamentary format was considered the most important component of the strategic relations to promote active and constructive joint work.

According to Volodin, the inter-parliamentary format is the best ground for joint legislative regulation in a number of directions, including the fight against terrorism.

Mutual satisfaction was expressed with the level of the Armenian-Russian cooperation in CIS, CSTO PA, BSEC and other international structures.

The partners discussed also some details of the CSTO PA Council meeting today. At the end of the meeting, Simonyan invited Volodin to pay an official visit to Armenia. -0-
