Armenian army officer charged with treason (video)

YEREVAN, June 28. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Security Service (NSS) has arrested and indicted another career army officer on charges of treason.

According to the NSS, the army officer, who possessed information on the command staff, quantity of armament and military equipment, the manpower as well as the location of some military units, had been recruited by a foreign intelligence service through the social network "ok.ru."

Then the army officer was promised 2,000,000 drams in exchange for sending photos via WhatsApp. The officer also undertook to make regular video calls through the same application and transmit information to a representative of foreign intelligence service about the buildings of his military unit, weapons, military armor, number and types of troops and vehicles, the number of reconnaissance and other units involved in military exercises at the training ground.

The army officer is charged with high treason. The NSS said he gave confession.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Monday during an online press conference that more than 50 Armenian servicemen faced treason charges.. -0-
