YEREVAN, July 29. /ARKA/. Armenia's authorities rely on civil society and business people in struggle against corruption, Deputy Justice Minister Suren Krmoyan said Wednesday in Yerevan at a conference focused on the challenges the private sector faces in the combat against corruption.

The conference was organized by the justice ministry and Transparency International NGO with support from the European Union's office in Armenia.

«Nobody says we have no corruption and our rating is high in this matter,» he said.

In his opinion, certain progress, though little, has been reached in the last years. «Anyway there is no regress and that's something,» he said.

Armenia, with 37 points, came 94th in Transparency International NGO's Corruption Perception Index – 2014, Azerbaijan 126th (29 points) and Georgia 50th (52nd).

Krmoyan said that this time the ministry will target businesses in its crackdown on corruption, since, as he said, 'it is necessary to combat corruption not only in the public sector, but also in private companies'.

He urged business people and civil society representatives to struggle against corruption with joint efforts.

Armenia’s anti-corruption council headed by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, at its first meeting held yesterday, approved a strategic program worth $750,000 to struggle against corruption.

Armenian government will pay for up to 25% of the program, and the remaining amount wilл be provided by the USAID. Financial assistance will be spent on creation of an expert committee, the launch of the anticorruption strategy and on elaboration of another strategy in public relation area. --0----
