Armenian Dashnaktsutyun party to participate in snap parliamentary elections

YEREVAN, April 19. /ARKA/. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun said today it will take part in the early parliamentary elections, scheduled to take place on June 20.

The statement was made following a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Dashnaktsutyun. Dashnaktsutyun said it is considering the early polls as an opportunity to "overthrow the authorities who betrayed the homeland."

The party that collected less than 4 percent of votes in 2018 December snap polls and failed to win a seat in the legislature, said the format of its participation in the elections will be made by its Supreme Body.

"We call on our compatriots, regardless of whether the elections are held or not, to continue the struggle to overthrow the authorities for the sake of the country's future," the statement said.

Nikol Pashinyan has been facing opposition demands to resign since he signed a peace deal in November with Azerbaijani and Russian leaders to end the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh that claimed thousands of young lives, and saw Azerbaijan reclaim control over large parts of Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas that had been held by Armenian forces for more than a quarter of a century. -0-
