Armenian defense minister not to leave office for seat in National Assembly

Vigen Sargsyan, Armenian defense minister, who topped Armenian Republicans’ party list in the recent parliamentary elections, has officially informed the Central Electoral Commission that he would not be a member of the National Assembly. It means he will remain in office.
YEREVAN, May 3. /ARKA/. Vigen Sargsyan, Armenian defense minister, who topped Armenian Republicans’ party list in the recent parliamentary elections, has officially informed the Central Electoral Commission that he would not be a member of the National Assembly. It means he will remain in office.
Hermine Harutyunyan, press secretary of the commission, reported on her Facebook page that his fellow partisans Taron Margaryan, Yerevan mayor, and Armen Amiryan, culture minister, have done the same.
Davit Lokyan, territorial administration and development minister, Levon Mkrtchyan, education and science minister, and Artsvik Minasyan, environment minister, all Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutiun party members, preferred not to leave their ministerial seats for parliamentary activity as well.
As many as 35 elected MPs – nine from the Republican Party of Armenia, 23 from Tsarukyan bloc and three from Dashnaktsutyun- have applied to the commission for withdrawal.
The Central Electoral Commission will consider withdrawal applications on May 3 and will also register MPs.
According to the official results of the parliamentary election, the Republican Party of Armenia obtained 58 seats or 55.2% in the National Assembly and Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutiun seven seats.
Tsarukyan bloc got 31 seats and YELQ, the only opposition bloc, won nine seats. --0---
