Armenian defense minister, Russian ambassador emphasize effective cooperation in defense sphere

YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. Armenia's Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan received on Monday Russia's Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.

It said Kopyrkin congratulated Harutyunyan on assuming the position of Minister of Defense. During the meeting, the parties highly appreciated the dynamics of the Armenian-Russian allied cooperation and political dialogue, as well as the effective cooperation in the defense sphere.

Harutyunyan was said to have underscored the role and efforts of Russia in implementing the provisions of the statement signed between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on November 10 aimed at stabilizing the military-political situation in the region.

The parties also emphasized the work of the Russian interagency humanitarian center, established in Nagorno-Karabakh, aimed at helping refugees return to their homes, restoring civilian infrastructures, searching for the dead, prisoners of war and missing, as well as coordinating the activities of various humanitarian organizations. 

From September 27 to November 9,  Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by  Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire  front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons. 

On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin are handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia. 

A Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
