YEREVAN, April 27. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is on a working visit to India, took part as a speaker in a panel discussion called ‘Doctrine of Elimination: Lessons of the UN Era" held within the framework of the Raisina Dialogue conference in New Delhi, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
It said in his speech, Mirzoyan noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the effective activities of international organizations, stressing their role in sustainable development, peace, democracy and protection of human rights. In this context he stressed that over the past three decades Armenia has demonstrated its commitment to the UN principles and goals.
During the discussion, Mirzoyan touched on Azerbaijan's aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh and the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone as another serious challenge facing multilateral diplomacy.
"As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and simply as Armenian, I would like to remind those present of the war that took place two years ago in our region, in Nagorno-Karabakh. Could you raise your hand: how many people among you knew about it? How many of you spoke about it? Who among you demanded that the UN take action, prevent new ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh?" asked Mirzoyan.
On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.
A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
