YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan will pay an official visit to Hungary on May 6, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reports.

"Mirzoyan is scheduled to meet with high-ranking Hungarian officials, including Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. The ministers' meeting will be followed by a joint press conference," the ministry said.

rmenia broke diplomatic relations with Hungary in 2012 after Budapest extradited to Azerbaijan Ramil Safarov, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Hungary for the murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan.

Safarov murdered Gurgen Margaryan with an axe while he was sleeping. Both were in Budapest to take part in a NATO Partnership for Peace program.

Hungary agreed to transfer Safarov to serve the remainder of his sentence in Azerbaijan, however, . Safarov was instead issued a pardon by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on his return.

On December 1, 2022 Armenian and Hungarian Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Péter Szijjártó agreed to restore full diplomatic relations. As a follow-up to the meeting, the two governments appointed non-resident ambassadors to explore possibilities for developing relations. -0-
