YEREVAN, February 15. /ARKA/. Edward Nalbandian, Armenian foreign minister, will fly to Germany tomorrow to attend the Munich Security Conference on February 16 and 17, the ministry’s press office reported on Wednesday.
According to the ministry’s news release, Nalbandian is set to meet in Munich with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, mediators in the Karabakh conflict settlement process, and with some officials.
Earlier, OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs expressed willingness to organize a meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Munich in mid-February.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict broke out in 1998 February when the Nagorno-Karabakh autonomous region announced its secession from Azerbaijan. In September 1991, the region declared itself the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and, over the course of the enduring conflict, Azerbaijan subsequently lost control of the region.
In 1994, a Russia-brokered cease-fire was signed and peace talks have been held since. --0---
