The Armenian Genocide recognition is no longer on Israeli Knesset’s agenda.

YEREVAN, May 29. /ARKA/. The Armenian Genocide recognition is no longer on Israeli Knesset’s agenda.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein pulled the item from the agenda, his spokeswoman said, to avoid an embarrassment to the Knesset, because it was unclear there would be a majority in favor, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

Earlier, 16 members of the Israeli parliament voted for and 10 against MP Tamar Zandberg’s proposal to include the issue in the agenda. Yuli Edelstein supported the proposal then.
Zandberg accused Edelstein of putting politics ahead of morality, dismissing the Knesset Speaker’s words in favor of her motion.
She is quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying that “this is a basic moral issue.... We, the Jewish people, know the value of recognizing national tragedies.”
In 2015 Armenia marked the 100 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the first genocide of the 20th century. According to Armenian and many other historians, up to 1.5 million Armenians have been killed starting in 1915 in a systematic campaign by the government of Turkey. Turkey has been denying it for decades.
The Armenian genocide has been recognized by dozens of countries. The first was Uruguay that did so in 1965. Other nations are Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 43 U.S. states.
It has been recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches and other international organizations. --0---
