YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia approved today the establishment of embassy in Doha, the capital of Qatar. It said the decision to open the diplomatic representation in the Gulf country stems from the developing friendly relations between the countries, investment opportunities and the growth of tourist flows and trade.
The Qatari government is said to be ready to open its embassy in Armenia on the principle of reciprocity. Qatar also said it would provide 400 thousand Qatari riyals (about $110 thousand) annually for the first three years to cover the embassy’s costs and also provide two cars for the Armenian embassy.
The cost of maintaining the Armenian Embassy in Qatar is estimated to cost $192,600, of which the Qatari side will pay $110,000 for the first three years, and the rest will be covered by the Armenian government.
Earlier this week Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said it would cut the personnel in some embassies to streamline the operation of the country’s diplomatic missions abroad. Earlier, the Armenian media, referring to their own sources, claimed the embassy in Denmark would be combined with the diplomatic representation in Sweden. - 0—
