Armenian government wants to merge two top military positions

YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian government-drafted bill calls for merging two top military positions- that of the Chief of General Staff and that of First Deputy Defense Minister.

The draft law, in particular, proposes also to specify the government's powers in the area of defense, to expand the scope of decisions subject to adoption by the National Security Council.

It also provides for grounds for combining the posts of other deputy defense ministers with military positions, if necessary.

The current Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Artak Davtyan is a defendant in a criminal case that involves supplies of low-quality weaponry. -0--
