Armenian lawmakers to embark on new electoral code discussion soon
YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. Armenian National Assembly's state administration committee will start discussing a new electoral code on Friday, Eduard Sharmzanov, vice-speaker of the parliament, said Monday at a session.

In his words, representatives of all the parliamentary factions will be present at the discussions.

«Our goal is not a formal discussion – we, along with our partners, want to adopt a new electoral code able to enhance public confidence in election processes,» Sharmazanov is quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying at the session.

He also said that after parliamentary discussions large-scale large-scale hearings will be held, after which the code will be put on the National Assembly's floor.

«We are open for any model of dialogues,» Sharmazanov said.

Levon Zurabyan, head of the Armenian National Congress' faction in the National Assembly, on his side, proposed to set up a working group.

«We propose to create 4+4+4 political dialogue model, which implies participation of four representatives of the authorities, four from the opposition and four from civil society,» he said.

Vahram Baghdasaryan, head of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia, said his party is not opposed to involvement of all political parties in the discussions. He said that after the discussions will be set up a working group, which will collect proposals.

In his words, the matter is planned to be widely discussed with out-of-parliament forces, NGOs and international organizations on March 22.

The necessity to amend the electoral code emerged after reformation of the Constitution and transition to parliamentary governing system. --0----
