Armenian MP tenders resignation application
YEREVAN, July 31. /ARKA/. An Armenian parliament member from the Prosperous Armenia party Vardan Bostanjyan has notified the parliament speaker Ara Babloyan of his intention to resign.

According to local media stories, Bostanjyan was forced to resign by his party’s leadership after his comments on the arrest of former president Robert Kocharyan. In particular, in an  interview to factor.am, he argued that there was no need for Kocharyan's arrest, noting also that the arrest looks like fulfillment of an order and is more like a political persecution.

On July 28 a  court in Armenian capital Yerevan allowed Kocharyan’s arrest on charges of overthrowing the constitutional order in collusion with other persons. The case dates back to the disputed presidential election in 2008 February 19. The CSTO secretary general Yury Khachaturov was also detained as an accused, but was shortly released on bail of 5 million drams. Former defense minister of Armenia Mikael Harutyunyan is currently wanted by Armenian law-enforcement authorities on the same charges.

In accordance with the regulations of the National Assembly of Armenia, if within a week Bostanjyan submits a written application revoking his resignation application, the speaker of parliament disseminates a relevant statement. Otherwise Bostanjyan would cease to be MP.-0-
