YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. In a telephone call with European Council President Charles Michel Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the military-political and humanitarian situation in the region, the Armenian government said.

It said Pashinyan stressed that the steps taken by Azerbaijan in the Lachin corridor are aimed at consistent implementation of Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and complete expulsion of ethnic Armenians from Karabakh.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of an adequate response of the international community to Azerbaijan's actions, which undermine regional security. He also emphasized the need of taking active measures to unconditionally implement the ruling of the International Court of Justice.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiation process and stressed the importance of consistent work to ensure stability and peace in the region.

The phone call comes after Azerbaijan installed a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor, which is the only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the rest of the world. The check point is set up at the border with Armenia obstructing the movement of people and traffic from and to Nagorno-Karabakh.

In another related development Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin held consultations with his Armenian counterparts Vahe Gevorgyan and Mnatsakan Safaryan in Yerevan on Tuesdasy.

Galuzin had also a separate conversation with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. The focus of the talks was on regional security, which has deteriorated after Azerbaijan set up the checkpoint in Lachin corridor, which is in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"The need to intensify efforts on all tracks of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization in accordance with the agreements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020, January 11, November 26, 2021 and October 31, 2022 was outlined. It was agreed to continue contacts," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. -0-
