Armenian ombudsman confirms his intention to quit office

Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan submitted today his second resignation request to the National Assembly confirming his decision to quit the office.

YEREVAN, January 18. /ARKA/. Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan submitted today his second resignation request to the National Assembly confirming his decision to quit the office.

In accordance with the law, the ombudsman is relieved from duty, if he /she submit its second resignation application to the National Assembly no later than in ten days after the first one.
If early dismissal of the ombudsman is approved by a simple majority of MPs, in one month after that another ombudsman is elected.
The press office says that before that the office will receive no applications and will provide only consulting services.
Earlier, explaining the resignation on his Facebook page, Andreasyan said if he remained in office also in 2016, this important institution will stop functioning effectively in the country.
Apologizing to everybody whose expectations he deceived, Andreasyan expressed hope that new laws that are expected to be adopted as part of the constitutional reform will provide room for solving many problems in human rights protection.
