Armenian opposition leader calls acting prime minister’s proposal unacceptable
YEREVAN, April 25. /ARKA/. Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the Civil Contract opposition party and the head of YELQ faction in the Armenian National Assembly, said that the scheme proposed by Karen Karapetyan, the acting prime minister, not acceptable.

Yesterday Pashinyan calls on Armenian citizens to continue their mass actions of civil unrest.

He said the velvet revolution should be come to its logical end.

Karapetyan asked the president to organize a meeting within the scheme he chooses with participation of a wide specter of parliamentary and non-parliamentary forces to discuss the situation and ways out of it.

He didn’t rule out that early parliamentary elections may be conducted.

On April 23, Serzh Sargsyan, who was appointed one week earlier by the Armenian parliament as prime minister amid widespread disaffection for him, resigned. On the same day, Armen Sarkissian, Armenian president accepted the government’s resignation.

“It is already obvious that the Republican Party of Armenia, particularly Karen Karapetyan, thinks that people are fully satisfied with Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation and time has come to think over reproduction of the party and ensure its further rule,” Nikol Pashinyan said. “I think that in this situation, people should express their firm stance and make it clear that such a scenario can’t be a part of the velvet revolution.”

Armenian Republicans, he said, want to organize the election in their way to have their own prime minister.

“This scheme is unacceptable to us, but we can also boycott such elections not passively, but actively – by blocking all polling stations not to allow the Armenian Republicans to reproduce themselves,” Pashinyan said. “I think our velvet people revolution gave its clear impetuses that Armenian Republicans no longer can rule the country.”

He also added that it is necessary to bar Serzh Sargsyan from ruling the country behind curtains.

“The earlier the victory is fixed de jure the better,” he said. “If we has attained Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation, we will manage to discourage Karen Karapetyan and Republicans from take the victory away of people,” the opposition leader said.

“I want to address Karen Karapetyan – I want you to understand that we will not allow you to take such steps, and the earlier you understand that the better to all.” --0---
