YEREVAN, June 18. /ARKA/. An extraordinary meeting of the Armenian government decided today to ask the parliament to look into stripping an MP Manvel Grigoryan of his immunity from criminal prosecution when it convenes for an extraordinary session on June 19.

Deputy Minister of Justice Artur Hovhannisian said this issue is one of the mandatory issues on the agenda for consideration by the parliament.

Under Armenian law, Manvel Grigoryan, detained on Saturday, cannot be formally charged and kept in custody for more than three days without the parliament’s consent. Manvel Grigoryan is a member of the Republican Party of Armenia.

Armenia’s National Security Service unveiled video footage on June 17 showing security officers searching Manvel Grigoryan’s home in Etchmiadzin, a town 15 off Yerevan, finding large quantities of “illegally acquired” weapons and ammunition as well as food and other donations collected by school children and citizens that were to be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh in April 2016 after the so-called four-day war.

In a related development the chief of Armenia’s National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan told the government session today that Manvel Grigoryan will not be released.  He said the investigation into Grigoryan’s case continues, saying also if Grigoryan returns everything that he stole, he will still not be freed from criminal liability. -0-
