The voting in the elections to the Yerevan city council is going on calmly and gives no grounds for anxiety, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan told journalists after he went to poll today, Novosti-Armenia News Agency reports.

YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. The voting in the elections to the Yerevan city council is going on calmly and gives no grounds for anxiety, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan told journalists after he went to poll today, Novosti-Armenia News Agency reports.
There are 464 polling stations in Yerevan and 816,475 people eligible to vote.
The premier said that law enforcement officers react immediately to every reported irregularity and no wrongdoer will remain unpunished.
He also said that transparent and fair elections will lay groundwork for further development of the capital city.
The elections are contested by six registered parties and one bloc - the parties are Arakelutyun (Mission), Bargavach Hayastan (Prosperous Armenia), the Armenian National Congress, Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law), the Republican Party of Armenia and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun (ARF), as well as Hello, Yerevan bloc.
The list of the ruling Republican Party is toped by incumbent mayor Taron Margaryan. The list of Orinats Yerkir – by emergency minister Armen Yeritsyan. The list of Prosperous Armenia - by former foreign minister Vartan Oskanian. The ANC list is headed by ex mayor Vahagn Khachatryan. The ARF list is topped by Armen Rustamyan. The slate of Hello, Yerevan - by deputy chairman of Heritage party Armen Martirosyan. The list of Arakelutyun is topped by Mesrop Arakelyan.
The city council, consisting of 65 members, elects the city mayor. Under the law, candidates for the mayoral seat are nominated by the council’s factions. The elections are contested by Arakelutyun (Mission), Prosperous Armenia, the Armenian National Congress, Orinats Yerkir, the Republican Party of Armenia, Armenian Revolutionary Federation/ Dashnaktsutiun parties and Barev Yerevan bloc. Vote minimum is set at 6% for parties and at 8% for party blocs. -0-
