Armenian president appoints Karen Karapetyan as new prime minister

Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan has signed today a decree appointing Karen Karapetyan as new prime minister of the country.
YEREVAN, September 13. /ARKA/. Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan has signed today a decree appointing Karen Karapetyan as new prime minister of the country.
Karapetyan was nominated for the post by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) late on September 8 hours after the resignation of now ex prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan.
Karen Karapetyan was born on August 14, 1963. In 1985 he graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Yerevan State University. He has a PhD degree in economics.
He taught at the Yerevan State University, worked as a deputy director of Armenergo energy company (1996-1998), and later as its CEO (1998-2001), and then as deputy energy minister.
In 2001-2010 he served as CEO of Armenia’s national gas distributing company ArmRosgazprom (now "Gazprom Armenia", a 100% subsidiary of the Russian "Gazprom"), and then from December 2010 to October 2011 he was mayor of Yerevan.
In December of the same year he was appointed first vice-president of Russian "Gazprombank". Since November 2012 he served as Deputy General Director of "Gazprom Mezhregiongaz" company.
He was awarded the medal of "Anania Shirakatsi". He is married and has three children. -0-
